Finance Minister Jim Flaherty confirmed that Canada is in deeper economic trouble than anyone was willing to tell us. They didn’t want us to know how much they actually spent and they tried their best to hide the numbers, as the Auditor General pointed out last month, but as we crunch the numbers, we see that this government has spent more than any government in Canadian history.

The Conservatives may have enacted austerity and they may be calling themselves good economic managers, but as we speak, they are not only spending recklessly, they are trying to hide their spending from the public and from elected MPs in the House of Commons.

It appears that you don’t necessarily have to be a bureaucrat who’s losing a job to get a severance package. While the Conservatives are cutting Canadian services, they are giving their friends in the bureaucracy a $6 billion in bonus and a pay raises.

International Development Minister Bev Oda has announced on her website that she will be resigning as MP for Durham on July 31. After the misspending that came out of her department, it is hard to see how Canada will miss her.

The Conservatives love the monarchy and their actions show it. Not only do they believe in making the average Canadian citizen poorer, they believe in pocketing the money that they take from all of us. International Cooperation Minister Bev Oda’s office refuses to tell the Canadian people whether she has repaid the waste she charged Canadian tax payers for last Summer during her trip to London. UN Food Envoy Oliver De Schutter blasted Canada for its widespread problem of food insecurity, stating that the country needs to drop its “self-righteous” attitude about how great a country it is. The UN person in charge of the right of food spent 11 days touring our nation as his first developed nation.

Defense Minister Peter Mackay’s cost estimate of Canada’s mission in Libya was 700% less than what it actually was. Canada paid close to $350 million for the war, quite a bit for a country that is dealing with economic constraint. None the less, above all, this reflects his honesty more than his management of taxpayer funds.

Taxpayer-funded CEO of the Old Port of Montreal, Claude Benoit, is unapologetic over her use of taxpayer dollars for her personal trip to New Zealand. She wasted working days touring the waterfronts and museums of New Zealand and used her off days to board a cruise – all at our collective expense. During her trip, she did not meet with the heads of various institutions that she visited as part of her full-time job, instead, she took pictures. It is time we send a strong message to bureaucrats who intend to use our money for their gain.
